چکیده

Fish health and the aquatic ecosystem are strongly interwoven interrelated. The receives a range of anthropogenic chemicals which have toxicological or lethal effects on animals. aim this study was to determine level induced mutation genomic stability different sub-lethal doses (25%, 50% 75% LC50) heavy metal [Nickel (Ni), Mercury (Hg), Lead (Pb)and Zinc (Zn)] in Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) andOreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758) using RAPD-PCR technology over period 21 days. Four highly polymorphic RAPD markers were evaluated isolated DNA from both exposed fishes control after exposure. Observation profiles C. revealed more damaging effect as sub increased with zinc (a + b = 44 bands) mercury 41 nickel 37 lead 35 than 34 32 31 for O. when compare groups. Although, template decreased doses, higher observed (GTSPb 26.32% GTSHg 18.42% GTSZn 10.53% GTSNi 2.63%) 5.41% 0.0% -10.81% -18.92%). results obtained showed differential variation genetic stabilty niloticus. These observable differences might be due physiological structure fish species evaluated. This also confirms that RAPD–PCR is useful tools detecting genotoxic metals organisms but low reproducibility results, it recommended should used along other molecular techniques genotoxicity studies. Keywords: Heavy metals, Induced, Genotoxicity, Fish, Technique

Histopathological Alterations in some Body Organs of Adult Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) Exposed to 4-Nonylphenol

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) include synthetic and naturally occurring chemicals that affect the balance of normal functions in animals (Razia et al. 2006). It has been found that exposure to natural and synthetic estrogenic chemicals may adversely affect wildlife and human health (Colborn et al. 1993). In vitro exposures (Soto et al. 1992; Soto et al. 1994; Toomey et al. 1999) have co...

On cestode and digenean parasites of Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) from the Rietvlei Dam, South Africa.

Sharptooth catfish, Clarias gariepinus, from the Rietvlei Dam near Pretoria, South Africa were examined for internal platyhelminth parasites. Two adult cestodes, Polyonchobothrium clarias (stomach) (prevalence 71%, mean intensity = 5, n = 7) and Proteocephalus glanduliger (anterior intestine) (prevalence 14%, mean intensity = 2, n = 7), were found in the gut while metacercariae of one larval di...

"Toxic effects of 4-nonylphenol on the embryonic development of African catfish Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) ''

The present study investigated effects of environmental relevant concentrations of 4-nonylphenol (0.05 to 0.08 to 0.1 mg/l) on the reproduction and embryonic developmental stages of catfish (Clarias gariepinus). To determine the effect of 4-nonylphenol on reproduction; catfish were exposed to three concentrations of 4-nonylphenol in a flow-through-system during spawning period (some for one wee...

Affinity purification and partial characterization of IgM-like immunoglobulins of African catfish, Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822).

IgM like macroglobulin from bovine serum albumin (BSA)-immunized African catfish C. gariepinus was purified by affinity chromatography and partially characterized. The molecular weight of this macroglobulin was 840 kDa, as estimated by gel filtration chromatography. Purified macroglobulin was analyzed using SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions. The molecular weight (MW) of heavy ...

Reproductive biology of female Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus) reared in monoculture and polyculture with African sharptooth catfish Clarias gariepinus (Burchell)

This study was conducted to assess the reproductive biology and early breeding behaviour of female Oreochromis niloticus reared in monoculture and polyculture with Clarias gariepinus in earthen ponds for 8 months. Results revealed no significant difference in length at first maturity (L50) between females reared in monoculture and polyculture systems. Similarly, no significant differences were ...
